This time of year can get hectic and busy for most people. It is challenging to slow down and spend time with your family. It is challenging to have a few quiet moments to think about what you are thankful for. Do people really do that anyway, sit down to think about what they are thankful for other than the minute before their turn is up as everyone goes around the table sharing at Thanksgiving dinner? Does it ever go beyond that one moment before dinner?
There is so much value in being thankful. It also slows us down a bit and changes negativity into a positive perspective. When you are thankful and have a grateful heart it usually translates to our actions including doing things for others.
John F. Kennedy said, “As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter words, but to live by them.”
This year we encouraged to:
- Take a few moments even before the meal to think and meditate on what you are thankful for.
- Do something for someone else because you are grateful for so many things in your life you can give back and pour into someone else’s life.
Last year a few of the Shaw girls packed meals through Lifeline. Once families packed the nutritious shelf-stable meals, they were shipped around the world where hunger and malnutrition are a daily struggle.
The Shaw family wishes you a Happy Thanksgiving! We would love to hear about ways you and your family spend quality time together during the holidays, some traditions you have or ways you give back to the community. Feel free to share here in the comments!
Shaw Interiors will be closed Thanksgiving Day and Black Friday. Our locations will open again Monday morning at 8:30am to work with you as you prepare your home for the holidays.
